A look back in history shows that women have made great strides in the fight for equality- including women's sufferage (the right for women to vote) and inroads in equal opportunity in the workplace and education. Today, gender bias continues to create huge barriers for many, especially poor women, women of color, and immigrant women. Ongoing struggles include ensuring equal econmic and educational opportunities, ending gender-based violence, and addressing the hardships of women and girls in the criminal justice system.
Idaho has ranked poorly in many comparative studies in womens' equality and the ACLU of Idaho works in the legislature, through litigation and educational opportunities to continue to level the playing field for all Idahoan women.
