Statement on Legal Challenge to Idaho’s Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage

We commend the bravery of the plaintiffs who, as the ACLU of Idaho learned today, have filed a legal challenge to overturn Idaho’s Constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. We hope for a positive outcome in their case. Ultimately, fundamental rights to freedom and equality are at stake in this case and these legal issues must be resolved.
The ACLU of Idaho will continue to work for full equality, including marriage, amending the Human Rights Act, continuing to provide technical support to cities who wish to advance non-discrimination city ordinances and ensuring transgender Idahoans have identity documents that reflect who they are.

We look forward to our continued collaboration with local coalition partners as well as national allies, such as NCLR, to address the array of civil rights issues impacting the lives of LGBT community members here in Idaho. ###
