USA PATRIOT Act
In 2007 we are working for
Congressional reform of the Patriot Act, including the repeal of the
Act’s provision that grants the FBI expanded powers to demand
sensitive personal information without judicial supervision though
the use of so-called National Security Letters.
Working with local Idaho groups, the
ACLU of Idaho won the passage of city Patriot Act resolutions in
communities such as Moscow and Boise. Leadership of the ACLU of
Idaho has worked with and encouraged members of the Idaho federal
delegation, including Congressman Butch Otter and Senator Larry
Craig, to rein in some Patriot Act powers, such as by limiting
“sneak & peek” searches and by advancing the Security and Freedom
Ensured Act (SAFE).
