Due Process
The ACLU successfully opposed an amendment to Idaho law which would
have allowed adoptions to take place without notice to some unwed
fathers. Men who executed a voluntary acknowledgement of paternity
would be considered fathers for purposes of child support but would
not be entitled to notice of adoption or termination of parental
rights. The ACLU opposed the bill as a violation of a father’s
constitutionally protected interest in parenting his child.
