Because Freedom Can't Protect Itself

Pocatello Education Association v. Heideman – The ACLU of Idaho was granted amicus curiae (friend of the court) status in support of the teachers union’s challenge to a recent Idaho law forbidding unions from engaging in certain political speech.  Early in 2006 Federal District Court Judge Lynn Winmill enjoined most of the law’s provisions.  The State is appealing our victory to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.  Emil Berg serves as the ACLU of Idaho cooperating counsel.
