“The Exonerated” Comes to Boise

BOISE  - The play “The Exonerated,” produced and directed by Mike Silva, will be presented July 7, 8 and 9 at The Flicks in downtown Boise. The play tells the real-life stories of six people who were convicted of murder, sentenced to death and later exonerated - after serving years in prison.

“The Exonerated” tells the stories of these six people in the simplest terms, what they said, what judges and prosecutors said and what the police said.  With few exceptions, each word spoken in the play comes from the public record – legal documents, court transcripts, letters – or from an interview with an exonerated person. The names of the people in the play are their own.  It is a powerful story of innocence, injustice and redemption.

The Boise cast includes Cherie Buckner-Webb, R.K. Williams, Tony Park, Tom McCabe, David Rose, Buffie Main, Christian Shiverick, Isaac Milton, Katherine Grimmett, Spike Ericson, Marcus Hunter, Bryan McLaughlin, Dayo Onanubosi and Mike Silva.

The play had an 18-month run at the Bleecker Street Theatre in New York and later toured for nine months, stopping in Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, Fort Worth and Minneapolis.

The ACLU has invited Ray Krone of Phoenix, Arizona, to speak at a special opening night cocktail reception at The Flicks.  Krone was exonerated by DNA evidence after being sentenced to death in 1992 for a murder he did not commit.  He was released from prison in 2002, the 100th innocent death row inmate freed since capital punishment was reinstated in 1976.  He is the 12th death row inmate whose innocence was proven through post-conviction DNA evidence.  Before his arrest, Krone had no criminal record and had been honorably discharged from the military.

Ray Krone is available for media interviews.  His biography follows.  Please call (208) 344-9750 ext 202.
